We believe developing a new model of devised theatre is an exciting necessity for our generation. We can no longer move society forward if the models with which we tell stories are outdated, and tailored to a specific portion of the population. With each laboratory and performance, in city after city, we have had the privilege to discuss with artists, venue managers, community members, and the media the importance of creating performance experiences that are welcoming to all.
Every workshop allows us a chance to integrate new strategies for the diverse communities we are encountering. We have had difficult conversations about privilege, accessibility, equity, gender affirming language, and the lack of resources for artists who are diabled, older, or parents of young children. We have produced beautiful workshop presentations, with each one bringing us closer to a viable, repeatable, and sustainable method of anti-exclusionary devised theatre that we hope to share with the world.
