Access Education For All

Global Hive Laboratories is excited to announce the start of our brand new video series, “Access Design with Global Hive.” This series is produced and edited by Aurora University senior Julia Petterson, and focuses on providing basic education about different forms of theatre accessibility, along with providing further research for interested viewers.

“I think a lot of theatres, especially local ones, don’t really know the options they have for accessibility,” says Julia, when asked why she thinks this series is so necessary. “Even if this is just basic starter information, it gives people an idea of what to go off of.”

The series will also feature interviews with other artists and theatre creators fighting to bring accessibility to the forefront, starting with director Iris Sowlat. Iris is disabled herself and has low vision, and thus brings a unique and important perspective to the conversation.

There are five videos planned for the series currently. The first, discussing audio description and touch tours, will be released on February 19, 2020 on the Global Hive Laboratories YouTube. Don’t miss it!
